18 Months of planning their special day | A new plan emerged to celebrate their love within restrictions in an instant.
Inscriptions on the heart
_
It all started with the rings inscribed with their original date, 6 June 2020
I remember when I met Tanya and Braam before my own wedding in January 2019. They decided to have a long engagement to give them time to plan the perfect day, 6 June 2020.
And then in March 2020 plans started to go awry from the original intended wedding. A nation-wide lockdown was announced. A new date was arranged, but 6 June 2020 was not only inscribed on their rings. It was also inscribed on their hearts. And so, an additional plan emerged.
An elopement within restrictions:
And so the heart lead with arrangements. Braam and Tanya decided to have a religious ceremony in a field next to their house. Friends were informed and a Zoom meeting was arranged with their nearest and dearest in virtual attendance.
Friends from far and near watched at home, cuddled up with mugs of coffee and glasses filled with champagne. A bridesmaid watched teary eyed from her home while Tanya got dressed in her stunning pink dress.
Their close family attended within restrictions. Couples who lived together were grouped together in the seating arrangement of the ceremony and they were spaced a perfect 2m from others. A total of 12 family members attended this religious ceremony within the regulations given by government.
Braam & Tanya's story:
"The reality of lockdown smacked us right in the face"
Planning our wedding since December 2018 was fun and the anticipation for the big day just grew as we both were excited to take the next step in our relationship. Unfortunately with a world pandemic wreaking havoc with everyone's plans, the same was true for our wedding day. The reality of lockdown smacked us right in the face when we had to move our wedding date. We then had to ask ourselves what this wedding meant to us and the result was love; love we have for each other and the love we would promise to each other for the rest of our lives together. We did not want to wait any longer.
Two weeks before 06/06/2020 the plans began for our lockdown elopement! We quickly managed to get all our plans together for our big day. And what a day it was! With our family surprising us to join us on our big day just made everything so much more special for us.
A beautiful day, filled with love and joy from our small gathering of friends and family (and our family and friends on Zoom). We have "locked down" 06/06/2020 in our hearts forever! We cannot wait to celebrate with all our loved ones next year!
