The value of a good pair of shoes

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."

- Coco Chanel

This blog post is a tribute to good shoes.

My first memory of shoes as a child was the Spice Girls' platform shoes. It made a lasting impression on me, that shoes did matter... A good pair of shoes will be remembered (and also a bad one)... Now they seem quite bad. :)

If the shoe fits....

Sennye's pair of shoes (pictured above) is one of loveliest pairs of shoes I have seen! They are so very elegant and rounded off the look of her wedding perfectly. I truly feel that no other pair of shoes could have fit into this lovely wedding. They also fit the person who wore them perfectly...

"Elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside."

- Coco Chanel

Wedding shoes set the tone of wedding attire. Elegance, whimsical, comfort, minimalism or glamour...

Imagine a groom with a great pair of shoes.... Imagine one with a bad pair.

Which would you like to be?

Designers like the famous Casper Bosman has recently started their own lines of wedding shoes (pictured below). Combining comfort with style.

Things to consider when buying the perfect pair of shoes for your wedding:

1. Your dress:

Your shoes will either compliment your dress or not.

It is important that you have a fitting with your dress and shoes. The height of the shoes and the length of your dress is important. If you have flats and your dress is too long it may be difficult to walk during your wedding.

It is very important that the style of the shoes fit in with your dress. You cannot wear leather flats if you are wearing a classic mermaid style dress. It would be wise to consult with your dressmaker, as they are familiar with the styles of shoes that would compliment your specific dress.

"Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman."

- Coco Chanel

2. The groom:

This one is quite easy, if the groom is the same height as you, don't wear heals. Men's egos are quite fragile and no man wants his bride to look taller than him ons his wedding day and in the photos.

3. The terrain:

If your wedding takes place in nature and you will have to walk over different terrains, including grass or dirt, I would advise wearing wedges, comfortable heals or flats. A bride almost tripping and falling when walking down the aisle is not elegant.

4. Your personality:

The happiest wedding is one where the bride decides to be herself. Choose shoes YOU like. Your personality must still shine through. Your wedding day is one of your most important days and I truly feel that you must also do what makes YOU happy. If a pair of flats make you happy, wear them. :)

Expert tip:

Remember to practice your first dance with your partner in your wedding shoes. :)

xx
